ASTICCACAULIS BIPROSTHECUM
| Class: | Alpha Proteobacteria |
| Genus: | Asticcacaulis |
| Species: | Asticcacaulis biprosthecum |
| Description: | Asticcacaulis biprosthecium is a gram-negative aerobic heterotroph which undergoes a dimorphic life cycle typical of bacteria of the caulobacter group. In Asticcacaulis biprosthecium prosthecaeare not produced at the site of flagellar insertion. Each cell characteristically produces two prosthecae normal to the long axis of the cell, one on the oppositeside of the cell from the other. Each swarmer cell possesses a single polar flagellum. |

| Source: | Active transport of glucose in prosthecae isolated from cells of Asticcacaulis biprosthecum was stimulated by the non-physiological electron donor N, N, N', N'-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine dihydrochloride. |
| Pathogenicity: | a dimorphic life cycle typical of bacteria of the caulobacter group. |
