FILOMICROBIUM FUSIFORME
| Class: | Alpha Proteobacteria |
| Genus: | Filomicrobium |
| Species: | Filomicrobium fusiforme |
| Description: | Filomicrobium fusiforme,a slender budding, hyphal bacterium from brackish water.A strain of a fusiform, aerobic bacterium was isolated from brackish water of the Baltic Sea. The cells carried a hypha on each pole and formed non-motile buds at the tips of these hyphae. During logarithmic growth the hyphae increased to a length of 40 μm. Cells of enrichment cultures carried hyphae of more than 300 μm. the stenohaline organisms utilized only a few organic acids as a carbon source: acetate, propionate, fumarate, malate, succinate, and glutamic acid. The cells were sensitive to penicillin G, tetracyclin, streptomycin, and chloramphenicol. |
