METHYLOCYSTIS BRYOPHILA
| Class: | Alpha Proteobacteria |
| Genus: | Methylocystis |
| Species: | Methylocystis bryophila |
| Description: | A facultatively methanotrophic bacterium from acidic Sphagnum peat.Gram-negative, curved coccoids, 0.9–1.4µm wide by 1.8–3.4µm long. Cells occur singly, do not form rosettes.Reproduce by binary fission. Non-motile. Produce intra-cellular poly-b-hydroxybutyrate granules. Cells contain awell-developed, type-II ICM system. Possess both pMMOand sMMO. The temperature range for growth is 8–37℃with an optimum at 25–30℃. Growth occurs betweenpH 4.2 and 7.6 with an optimum at pH 6.0–6.5. Thepreferred growth substrate is methane. Methanol is utilizedat concentrations below 0.1 % (v/v). |
