| Class: | Alpha Proteobacteria |
| Genus: | Methylocystis |
| Species: | Methylocystis hirsuta |
| Description: | Methylocystis hirsuta,a novel methanotroph isolated from a groundwater aquifer.Cells are aerobic, Gram-negative, 0.3–0.6×0.7–1µm in size and occur singly or in clusters.
