OCTADECABACTER JEJUDONENSIS

Class: Alpha Proteobacteria
Genus: Octadecabacter
Species: Octadecabacter jejudonensis
Description: Octadecabacter jejudonensis, isolated from the junction between the ocean and a freshwater spring.A Gram-stain-negative, non-spore-forming, non-flagellated, rod-shaped bacterial strain, SSK2-1T, was isolated from the zone where the ocean and a freshwater spring meet at Jeju island, South Korea, and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study. Strain SSK2-1T grew optimally at 30 °C, at pH 7.0–8.0 and in the presence of 2.0 % (w/v) NaCl.Cells are Gram-stain-negative, non-spore-forming, non-flagellated and rod-shaped, approximately 0.2–0.5µm in diameter and 0.8–5.0µm in length. Gas vesicles are produced. Colonies on MA are circular, slightly convex, smooth, glistening, reddish orange and 0.5–1.0 µm in diameter after incubation for 5 days at 30℃.
