| Description: | Paracoccus zeaxanthinifaciens,a zeaxanthin-producing bacterium. Short rods to cocci, 0.8–0.9×–1.5µm, growing singly,in pairs or in short chains. Non-motile and Gram-negative.Colonies on Marine Agar are circular, convex, smooth anddeep yellow to orange due to accumulation of the carotenoidzeaxanthin. Astaxanthin and other ketocarotenoids are notproduced. Growth is strictly aerobic. Catalase, oxidase andb-galactosidase are positive. |
