BURKHOLDERIA PICKETTII

Class: Beta Proteobacteria
Genus: Burkholderia
Species: Burkholderia pickettii
Description: Ralstonia pickettii can be isolated from a wide range of environmental and clinical samples. This species is a nocosomial pathogen. It is associated with infections caused by contaminated solutions, such as distilled water and intravenous solutions. Although not common, the infections can be serious when they do occur, and include bacteremia and septicemia. Ralstonia pickettii strains resistant to heavy metals have also been isolated from heavy metal contaminated environments.
