CAMPYLOBACTER AVIUM
| Class: | Epsilon Proteobacteria |
| Genus: | Campylobacter |
| Species: | Campylobacter avium |
| Description: | Cells are spiral, Gram-negative rods, motile, 0.2-0.4 µm wide and 1-3 µm long. On Brucella sheep blood agar at 37°C after 48 h under microaerobic conditions, colonies appeared non- ±-haemolytic, flat, greyish and finely granular with an irregular edge and show a tendency to spread along the direction of the streak and to swarm and coalesce. Strictly microaerobic. Able to grow at 37 and 42OC, but not at 25OC or under anaerobic and aerobic conditions. Most strains do not require hydrogen to grow. |
