Description: Gram-negative, strictly aerobic,oxidase-negative, catalase-positive, non-motile coccobacilli, capable of growing in mineral media with acetate as sole carbon source and ammonia as sole source of nitrogen,and incapable of dissimilative denitrification.Colonies on Columbia agar supplemented with 5 % sheep blood after 24 h incubation at 30°C are ~1.5 mm in diameter, circular, convex,smooth and surrounded by clear zones of haemolysis.
