| Description: | Gram-negative, non-motile, rod-shaped or pleomorphic with cells occurring singly and in pairs or short chains depending upon the growth stage. Colonies on bovine blood agar are round, regular, greyish or yellowish, semi-transparent at the periphery and are about 2 mm in diameter after 24 h at 37°C. Some isolates are haemolytic and are CAMP-positive. Endospores are not formed. Growth is mesophilic and facultatively anaerobic or microaerophilic. |

| Source: | Most ruminants are asymptomatic carriers of this species, although it has been sporadically isolated from cases of abortion and pneumonia. |
| Pathogenicity: | Serotype A1 is most frequently associated with bronchopneumonia in sheep, and seroytpe A2 most frequently from mastitis. Serotypes T3, T4, T10, and T15 are more commonly found in animals with septicemia. |
