Description: Gram-negative rods, motile (peritrichous flagella), 0.5-1.0 x 1-3 μm.Colonies are generally mucoid, domed and can vary in color from white to cream.B. rubrifaciens produces a water soluble, diffusible pink-red pigment (rubrifacin) on yeastextract glucose chalk agar.Optimum growth temperature 26 - 30 ºC. No growth at 40 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic.
