| Genus: | Cardiobacterium |
| Species: | Cardiobacterium hominis |
| Description: | The main distinguishing features of this group of bacteria are: (1) facultative anaerobes; aerobic growth dependent on atmospheres with high humidity; (2) characteristic pleomorphic gram-negative bacilli with many cells retaining discrete gram-positive areas; (3) sudanophilic bodies and metachromatic granules demonstrable; (4) fermentative metabolism; (5) positive oxidase reaction; (6) production of indole; (7) antigenically unrelated to members of the genera:Brucella, Pasteurella, Bordetella, Moraxella, Hemophilus, Streptobacillus, Corynebacterium, Bacteroides, Neisseria, Escherichia, Aerobacter, andLactobacillus |
