Description: Small, Gram-negative, pleomorphic coccobacillus; obligate intracellular bacterium that replicates in macrophages and monocytes.Size: 0.4-1.2 μm in length and 0.2-0.4 μm in width.Resistant to heat, low or high pH, 0.5% sodium hypochlorite, UV irradiation, and environmental conditions, such as desiccation, extreme temperatures, and sunlight, because of the presence of a spore-like stage.

Source: This organism is widely distributed in nature and can cause infections in reptiles, birds, and mammals.
Pathogenicity: It causes Q fever, or 'query' fever, an atypical pneumonia first associated with abattoir workers in Australia.
