Description: Erwinia ananas known as a “Pantoea ananatis”. Erwinia ananas is Short rods,0.6 to 0.9 microns,with rounded ends, occurring singly, in pairs and in short chains. Motile by means of peri- trichous flagella. Encapsulated. Gram- Negative.

Source: It can be isolated from the pineapple and sugar cane .It causes a brown rot of the fruit-pineapple.
Pathogenicity: It is an emerging plant pathogen which causes disease on a broad range of plant hosts including maize, onion, rice, pineapple, melons and Eucalyptus. It has also been implicated in cases of bacteremia in humans.
