ERWINIA NIGRIFLUENS

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Erwinia
Species: Erwinia nigrifluens
Description: Erwinia nigrifluens known as "Brenneria nigrifluens”.These are straight rods,Motile by means of peritrichous flagella. There is no genome found but 123 Nucleotide sequences are available for this ogranism. For more information about sequences just click on link which is shown in "GenBank Accession section".
Synonyms: Brenneria nigrifluens;Erwinia amylovora var. Nigrifluens.
Source: The bacterium first reported in California, was also recorded in Iran, Spain, France, and several Italian locations on walnut trees.
Pathogenicity: Shallow bark canker caused by Erwinia nigrifluens is one of the most dangerous diseases of Persian walnut trees. The disease is mainly characterized by shallow, irregularly shaped cankers in the bark of the trunk and branches, from which a dark-coloured watery exudate oozes through small cracks in the bark. The disease causes severe damage to young nursery plants (Saccardi et al., 1998) and to adult trees (Piccirillo,2003). First reported in California (Wilson et al., 1957),the disease was subsequently recorded in Spain (López et al., 1994),Iran (Harighi and Rahimian, 1997), Italy (Morone et al., 1998; Saccardi et al., 1998) and France (Ménard et al., 2004).
