ERWINIA PSIDII

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Erwinia
Species: Erwinia psidii
Description: Erwinia psidii is a Gram-negative bacterium and a phytopathogen of the Common Guava (Psidium guajava),causing rot in branches, flowers and fruits. Recently it was demonstrated that this species produces two acyl-homoserine lactones (S-(-)-N-hexanoyl-and N-heptanoyl-homoserine lactone), widely recognized bacterial quorum sensing signaling substances, and employed in bacterial cell-to-cell communication systems. There is no data found in genome and 221 Nucleotide sequences are available for this ogranism. For more information about sequences just click on the link which is shown in "GenBank Accession section".
Synonyms: Erwinia psidii(Neto et al.1988)
Source: Erwinia psidii was first detected in Valindos and Pindamohangaba counties of Sao paulo state,Brazil. The occurrence of E. psidii is limited to Brazil.
Pathogenicity: Pathogenic to guava (Psidium guajava L.) causing a die-back of twigs and branches, characterized by a collapse of the vascular tissue. In artificial inoculations, the bacterium was also pathogenic to strawberry guava (Psidium cattleianum Lam.), jambolana (Eugenia jambolana Lam.), and “mela- leuca” (Melaleuca viridiflora Brogn. and Gris.), and to all members of the Myrtaceae family. A new shoot and stem disease of Eucalyptus species caused by Erwinia psidii.
