Description: Gram negative, 0.2-0.3/0.5-2.0 μm, pleomorphic rods,noncapsulated.Colonies on chocolate agar are smooth,convex, translucent, 1.0-2.0 mm. in diameter in 24 hours , with a small granular area on top.Hemolysis is negative.Aerobic, facultatively anaerobic, require X-factor but not V-factor for growth. CO2 is not required. Growth on Mac Conkey agar is negative.
Synonyms: Bacillus haemoglobinophilus canis Friedberger 1903, "Bacterium haemoglobinophilus" (sic) Lehmann and Neumann 1907, "Hemophilus canis" (sic) Rivers 1922.
Source: olated from the preputial sac and vagina of dogs.
Pathogenicity: May belong to normal flora of the preputial sac and vagina of dogs. Probably low pathogenicity for dogs.
