Description: Gram negative, pleomorphic rods, variable length, some strains form capsule.Growth of freshly isolated strains on chocolate agar is very feeble after 2-3 days. Colonies are smooth, grayish, translucent, small (0.5 mm in diameter) to 1-2 mm around. Hemolysis is negative. Require V-factor but no X-factor or CO2 for growth. Optimum temperature 37 ºC. Growth on Mac Conkey agar is negative.

Pathogenicity: Causes respiratory tract infections and polyserositis in pigs (Glasser disease).
