Description: Cells are Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic and rodshaped, approximately 0.3 μm wide and 1.2–1.8 μm long. They are non-motile, lacking flagella. Growth occurs under anaerobic conditions in marine broth and marine broth supplemented with nitrate. No endospores are formed. Colonies on marine 2216 agar are non-pigmented, circular, smooth and convex with an entire edge. Organic growth factors are not required.
