MARICHROMATIUM INDICUM

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Marichromatium
Species: Marichromatium indicum
Description: Cells are rod-shaped, measuring about 0.8–1.0μm in width and 2–7μm in length. Multiply by binary fission and are motile by means of polar flagella. Culture suspension is orange–brown in colour. Internal membranes are of the vesicular type, extending throughout the cell. Pigments include bacteriochlorophyll a and, most probably, carotenoids of the spirilloxanthin series. No requirement for growth factors.
