Description: Gram-negative, non-motile rods, 1.0–1.5μm wide by 1.0–4.0μm long. Cells occur singly, in pairs or in short chains and are covered by large capsules. Reproduce by binary fission. Possess stacks of ICMs typical of type I methanotrophs. No cysts are formed. Colonies are slimy, pale pink with an entire edge and a smooth surface. Liquid cultures display homogeneous turbidity; no surface pellicle is formed.
