NATRONOCELLA ACETINITRILICA

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Natronocella
Species: Natronocella acetinitrilica
Description: Cells are rods, 1.5–4.0×0.4–0.5 μm, motile with a single polar or subpolar flagellum. Yellow-coloured due to the presence of ketocarotenoids, dominated by zeaxanthin. Utilizes acetonitrile and propionitrile as carbon, energy and nitrogen source via nitrile hydratase/amidase enzyme system. Obligately alkaliphilic with a pH range for growth from 8 to 10.5 (optimum at 9.5–9.8).
