PSEUDOMONAS AGARICI

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Pseudomonas
Species: Pseudomonas agarici
Description: It is gram-negative,non-sporing,short rod occurring singly,in pairs,or in chains, occassionally motile by one or rarely two polar flagella. On modified FLO medium colonies of the organism were buff coloured and semi opaque;they fluoresced blue under ultra violet light and produced a small quantity of green diffusible pigments that fluoresced weakly blue under ultra volet light.
Synonyms:
Source: Isolated from bacterial droplets of mushroom gills.
Pathogenicity: Pseudomonas agarici causes "drippy gill" disease in mushrooms. Bacteria colonize the gills of the mushroom producing abundant exopolysaccharide and causing tissue degradation. This disease can cause significant economic losses for commercial mushroom growers.
