Description: Gram-negative environmental bacterium.
Synonyms:
Source: isolated from a rice paddy.Has been recovered from rice seed samples from the Philippines,from rice and petroleum fields and oil brine from Japan, and from the gills of mollusks.
Pathogenicity: It is antagonistic to many bacterial and fungal pathogens of rice.A VIM-1-producing strain causing meningitis in a 2 year old girl after placement of drainage system for a neuroectodermal tumour has been reported.A second case causing human infection was reported in a 56 year old with P. fulva bacteremia who was hospitalised after trauma incurred at a construction site.
