SALMONELLA ENTERICA SUBSP.ENTERICA SEROVAR PARATYPHI A

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Salmonella
Species: Salmonella enterica subsp.enterica serovar paratyphi A
Description: Gram-negative,Rods,occurring singly.Usually motile by means of peritrichous flagella. The presence of factor O1 is connected with lysogenization. Ferments arabinose but no xylose. The majority of strains do not produce H2S,and in this respect serovar Paratyphi A is unlike most other salmonellae.
Synonyms: N.A.
Source: It is transmitted primarily through humans, although there are rare cases of transmission from domesticated animals. The pathogen is most frequently encountered through the ingestion of water, contaminated with feces from an infected individual or an asymptomatic carrier of the disease. Milk, raw vegetables, salads, shellfish, and ice can also transmit the pathogen if not properly washed or prepared.
Pathogenicity: Pathogenic only for humans. These serotypes are human pathogens that cause paratyphoid fever. It is caustive agent of type A typhoid-like infection. Salmonella paratyphi and Salmonella typhi both bacteria are transmitted through the faecaloral route by ingestion of contaminated food or water. Ingestion is followed by colonisation of the small intestine invasion of the gastrointestinal mucosal surface, and dissemination throughout the body into the liver, spleen, and bone marrow.
