SERRATIA FONTICOLA

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Serratia
Species: Serratia fonticola
Description: The organism is a Gram-negative,rod-shaped,motile,facultatively anaerobic,rod-like bacterium that grows as single cells or in chains. It expresses phosphate solubilization and antifungal activity against Rhizoctonia sp.
Synonyms: Serratia glossinae
Source: The strains were isolated from fresh water and soil (Gavini et al., 1979). It is also isolated from rhizosphere of pea roots and confers traits similar to PGPR.
Pathogenicity: Serratia fonticola belongs to a group of opportunistic pathogens and can cause illness in people with weak or damaged immune systems.
