SERRATIA RUBIDAEA

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Serratia
Species: Serratia rubidaea
Description: This small, straight Gram negative rod is motile by peritrichous flagella. Serratia rubidaea is a potential strain for lipase production by utilizing some of the cheapest substrates. The Subspecies burdigalensis, colindalensis and rubidaea of Serratia rubidaea were created in 1990 by Grimont et al.
Synonyms: Serratia rubidaea (Stapp 1940) Ewing et al. 1973; Serratia marinorubra ZoBell and Upham 1944 (Approved Lists 1980); Serratia marinorubra.
Source: Rarely,it has been found in blood, the respiratory tract, wounds, and feces. It can be isolated infrequently from natural environments like fruits, vegetables, and ripe coconuts (Grimont et al.,1981c).
Pathogenicity: Serratia rubidaea cause invasive human infection. Serratia rubidaea strain can cause spots on tomato fruits.(MH Abd-Alla et. al., Phytoparasitica, 2011) .
