THERMOCHROMATIUM TEPIDUM

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Thermochromatium
Species: Thermochromatium tepidum
Description: Cells are straight to slightly curved rods. Multiply by binary fission, motile most likely by polarflagella. Gram-negative. Contain internal photosynthetic membrane systems of vesicular type in which the photosynthetic pigments bacteriochlorophyll a and carotenoids are located. Obligately phototrophic, photolithoautotrophic growth with sulfide or elemental sulfur as electron donor under anoxic conditions in the light.
