THIOMICROSPIRA KUENENII
| Class: | Gamma Proteobacteria |
| Genus: | Thiomicrospira |
| Species: | Thiomicrospira kuenenii |
| Description: | Cells are Gram-negative, motile and vibrio-shaped (0.3-0.4 x 1.0-2.5μm). T. kuenenii is strictly aerobic and grows autotrophically on thiosulfate, tetrathioate, sulfur and sulfide, but not on sulfite or thio- cyanate. The organism does not grow heterotrophically. When thiosulfate is used as the primary energy source very small amounts of sulfur and sulfite are produced. |
