THIOTHRIX DISCIFORMIS
| Class: | Gamma Proteobacteria |
| Genus: | Thiothrix |
| Species: | Thiothrix disciformis |
| Description: | Cells are rods and form slightly bent multicellular filaments. Filaments are more than 0.5 mm long and can reach several millimetres. Colonies are fingerprint-like. Cell morphology in Ælaments is variable, particularly for length, and discoid to ovoid shaped cells are often observed. Cells of the major form are 1.2-3.0 μm in diameter and 0.5-3.0 μm in length.Gram-negative. A sheath is absent. Volutin inclusions are not usually observed. Sudanophilic granules are observed within cells. |
