THIOTHRIX FLEXILIS

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Thiothrix
Species: Thiothrix flexilis
Description: Cells are rod and form slightly bent multicellular filaments. Filaments are more than 0.5 mm long and can reach several millimetres. Colonies are fingerprint-like. Cell morphology in Ælaments is variable, particularly for length, and discoid to ovoid-shaped cells are often observed. Cells are 1.0-4.0μm in diameter and 0.5-5.5μm in length.Gram-negative. A sheath is absent. Rosettes and holdfasts are observed in some but not all strains. Gliding gonidia are produced from the end of the filaments only in rosette-forming strains.
