XANTHOMONAS PERFORANS

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Xanthomonas
Species: Xanthomonas perforans
Description: These cells are straight rods which are 0.4 – 1.0 µm wide by 1.2 – 3.0 µm long. They are motile by a single polar flagellum. These are Gram stain – negative
Synonyms:
Source: Causes leaf spot disease in seedlings of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) and first observed in commercial greenhouse in Sungju County, Korea.
Pathogenicity: the isolates identified as Xanthomonas perforans were able to induce pith necrosis, vascular discolouration, longitudinal splits and external lesions on stems. This report of X. perforans causing pith necrosis on tomato represents a potentially serious problem that may limit the productivity of tomato crops.
