XENORHABDUS LUMINESCENS

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Xenorhabdus
Species: Xenorhabdus luminescens
Description: Pigmented, forming yellow, orange, red or pink colonies. Phase I colonies are mucoid and adsorb neutral red, forming red colonies, and bromothymol blue. Phase I produces lecithinase. Bioluminescent ; intensity of bioluminescence varies and in some strains, particularly phase IT, must be detected in a scintillation counter.
