| Description: | It named after R.R.Rucker, who studied the red mouth disease and its etiological agents. Enteric redmouth disease (ERM)is a serious septicemic bacterial disease of salmonid fish species. It is caused by Yersinia ruckeri, a Gram-negative rod-shaped enterobacterium. It has a wide host range, broad geographical distribution,and causes significant economic losses in the fish aquaculture industry. |

| Source: | The organism was initially isolated only in North America, but reports of enteric red mouth disease caused by Y. ruckeri have also assumed increasing importance in fish farms in Europe(Home et al., 1984). The organism is found in water.The disease can be transmitted experimentally from fish to fish. |
| Pathogenicity: | Yersina ruckeri is a fish pathogen responsible for redmouth disease, especially in rainbow trout. An inflammation of the mouth and the throat is the main characteristic. Yersinia ruckeri is the causative agent of enteric redmouth disease or yersiniosis, which affects mainly salmonid fish. |
