Description Salmonella enterica serovar Pullorum is a chicken-adapted pathogen, causing pullorum diseaseThe organisms are Gram negative non-sporogenic rods . They are considered to be non-motile under normal conditions.
Synonyms Salmonella pullorum.
Habitat/Source Mainly isolated from chickens.Pullorum Disease has been mostly eradicated in the United States, Canada, Japan, Western Europe and Australia.
Pathogenicity Pullorum Disease also known as Bacillary White Diarrhea caused by sub-species of this organism. Pullorum Disease and Fowl typhoid both are economically important diseases of chickens but may infect other birds as well.
